Oblates Expand Indigenous Ministry

The Missionary Oblates in the Philippines have opened an Office for Indigenous Peoples in south Upi, Maguindano as a way to expand their ministries among some of the country’s most oppressed people.
“The Indigenous Peoples Ministry Office is a visible sign of the continued commitment of the Oblates to work for the disadvantaged, and to remind us that no one is so little as not to be included and loved,” said Fr. Boyet Palomo, O.M.I.
A primary focus of the Oblates’ work among indigenous peoples is helping young people graduate high school.  Most schools in the Philippines have few or no indigenous students.  By contrast, at the Oblates’ Notre Dame School in Kulaman, 288 of the 720 students are indigenous people.

 

Oblate Named To Vatican Congregation

In September the Vatican announced that Fr. Ryszard Szmydki, O.M.I. of Poland has been named the new under-secretary of the Congregation for the Evangelizations of Peoples.
Father Szmydki served two terms as the superior of the Oblate Province of Poland.  His missionary work includes two years ministering in Cameroon.
The role of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples is the transmission and dissemination of the faith throughout the world.  It also holds the specific responsibility of coordinating and guiding all the Church’s diverse missionary efforts and initiatives.

McLean Center Dedication

The McLean Center for the Study of Culture and Values was inaugurated in November at the Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. The center is named for Fr. George McLean, O.M.I. founder of the International Council for Research in Values and Philosophy.
Father McLean, who passed away in 2016, was an internationally-acclaimed author who coordinated workshops that promoted dialog and communication between people of different faiths and cultures. He authored and co-authored 25 books and nearly 100 articles, as well as conducted hundreds of lectures around the world.

Los Oblatos Expanden el Ministerio con los Indígenas

Los Misioneros Oblatos en las Filipinas abrieron una Oficina para los Pueblos Indígenas al sur de Upi, Maguindano, como una forma de extender su ministerio con algunos de los pueblos más oprimidos.
“La Oficina de Ministerio a los Pueblos Indígenas es una señal visible del compromiso contínuo de los Oblatos por trabajar con los desfavorecidos y de recordarnos que nadie es tan poco como para no ser incluido y amado”, dijo el F. Boyet Palomo, O.M.I.
Uno de los temas principales del trabajo de los Oblatos con los pueblos indígenas, es ayudar a los jóvenes a terminar la escuela preparatoria. En la mayoría de las escuelas en las Filipinas hay pocos o ningún estudiante indígena. En contraste, en la Escuela Notre Dame de los Oblatos en Kulaman, 288 de los 720 estudiantes son indígenas.

 

Oblato llamado a la Congregación Vaticana

El Vaticano anunció en septiembre que el P. Ryszard Szmydki, O.M.I. de Polonia ha sido nombrado nuevo sub-secretario de la Congregación para la Evangelización de los Pueblos.
El Padre Szmydki fue superior de la Provincia Oblata de Polonia por dos mandatos. Su trabajo misionero incluye dos años en Camerún.
El objetivo de la Congregación para la Evangelización de los Pueblos es transmitir y diseminar la fe alrededor del mundo. Además, su responsabilidad específica es coordinar y guiar los diferentes esfuerzos misioneros e iniciativas de toda la Iglesia.

Dedicación del Centro McLean

En noviembre fue inaugurado el Centro McLean para el Estudio de la Cultura y los Valores, en la Universidad Católica de América en Washington, D.C.  El centro recibió el nombre del P. George McLean, O.M.I. fundador del Consejo Internacional para la Investigación de los Valores y la Filosofía.
El Padre McLean, fallecido en 2016, fue un autor aclamado internacionalmente, coordinador de talleres que promovieron el diálogo y la comunicación entre las personas de diferentes religiones y culturas. Fue autor y co-autor de 25 libros y casi 100 artículos, además de impartir cientos de conferencias en todo el mundo.
