The God of Love and Peace Shall be With You

I recently used the power of prayer to comfort the family of Fr. Patrick Healy, O.M.I. who recently passed away at the age of 100.  Father Patrick was an amazing and much-loved missionary.

Fr. Patrick Healy, OMIWhen Fr. Patrick celebrated his 100th Birthday last August, he told a reporter:  “I am aware that my time on earth is short.  On that day when I receive my summons home, I will whisper truthfully in a humble voice ‘Lord, I’d do it again.'”

Father Patrick’s life, including 75 years as a Missionary Oblate priest, was filled with minstries that he absolutely would have wanted to do again.

A few years after his ordination in 1947, Fr. Patrick was assigned to Japan and soon became the U.S. Military Vicar in the country.  This was the start of a military career that would cover nine decades!

As a Chaplain in the Army, Fr. Patrick served in Korea and two tours of duty during the Vietnam War.  He often used the hood of a Jeep as an altar when he presided at Mass.  Fourteen times he anointed men in Vietnam who now have their names permanently etched on the Vietnam Memorial.

After Vietnam, Fr. Patrick continued to work as a Military Chaplain both far (Mannheim, Germany) and near (U.S. Military Academy at West Point).

During his “retirement” Fr. Patrick was a Chaplain at Soldier’s Homes along the East Coast.  He ministered to thousands of elderly veterans and was doing so until just a few weeks before his death.

Father Patrick was beloved for his caring and compassionate nature.  A longtime friend said of Fr.Patrick, “When you’re with him, you feel close to God.”

Today, Fr. Patrick is close to God in Heaven.  Who in your life could find comfort in knowing that their departed loved one is also close to God?

Please allow us the honor to help you comfort someone who is grieving the loss of a loved one.  May they find comfort knowing the deceased is now close to God.
