Dear Friend in Christ,

I was blessed to visit Lourdes, France, for the first time in February 2020 for the feast of Our Lady of Lourdes. Upon entering the sanctuary, I was immediately struck by both the grandeur and simplicity of this most sacred Marian shrine.

The immensity of the holy site was obvious. When I concelebrated Mass on the feast of Our Lady of Lourdes, February 11, there were more than 400 priests and 12,000 people in attendance. It was the greatest display of faith that I had ever experienced in my life.

But at the same time, this sacred space was full of the familiar simplicity of our faith — there was a daughter praying with her mother who was battling cancer, a priest who spent extra time counseling a person struggling with their faith and a patient volunteer helping an elderly couple find their way through the massive complex.

I am happy to say I will be returning to Lourdes again next month to concelebrate the feast day of Our Lady of Lourdes. I am so grateful to have this opportunity to be able to participate in this experience again and am honored to represent our Oblate family of priests, brothers and co-missionaries at this most holy event.
