As Mother’s Day approaches, we think of our mothers and mother figures, those who are still with us and those who rest eternally with our Blessed Mother—who walked with Jesus his whole life. We appreciate their sacrifices and their never-ending love that protects us.

Just as our Blessed Mother and our earthly mothers watch over us, the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate care for the poorest of the poor in places like Tijuana, Mexico. One such mother in our mission there is Laura del Rocio Padilla Villagomez.

Laura didn’t finish high school because she had to work to help her three children. When her husband became disabled in an accident, she earned her GED and then qualified for the Oblates’ San Eugenio Scholarship. This scholarship is funded through donations of generous co-missionaries like you. Laura graduated in December and is now a social worker.

Incidentally, their daughter Nicole now attends college, also through the Scholarship program. As Nicole studies to be an accountant, she already volunteers teaching math to kids in the community.

Families like Laura and Nicole can only break the cycle of poverty with a helping hand from generous co-missionaries like you.

Your Mother’s Day gift will help our ministries with poor mothers around the world, allowing them to improve their lives and the lives of their children. As a thank you for your continued support, my brother Oblates and I would like to pray for your needs in our Mother’s Day Masses.

In appreciation for your offering of $12 each, you can have Carnations placed in honor of the special mothers in your life at the National Shrine of Our Lady of the Snows as a physical tribute at the Mass. Simply put the name of the person you would like honored in the form below when you make your donation.
