Class of 2024 St.Eugene Scholarship Program Empower Youth Through Education

The St. Eugene Scholarship Program is an educational program at Mary Immaculate Catholic Parish in Tijuana, Mexico as part of our Baja Mission.

St. Eugene Scholarship Class of 2024

Imagine being an 18 year old with big dreams—but your current situation does not allow you to achieve them. These barriers might include school fees, transportation, school supplies, books, programs, and not being able to have the time to work and pay for these expenses.

The cost of studying is around 400 US dollars per semester. Thus, studying in the city of Tijuana is a great challenge. Thirty-five young people from all levels faced this challenge—and they all graduated. They join the list of more than 400 students who have been able to advance academically through the “San Eugenio” Scholarship Program.

This program has impacted the social paradigm: Students now realize that it is better to continue with their studies rather than moving immediately from middle school into work.

Often, children who graduate from elementary school begin to think about what middle school they will attend. Young people who finish middle school have much less of a chance of dropping out if they anticipate a high school education. High school graduates are not looking for a factory to work in, but rather for the profession they want to study in college. University graduates can now aspire to a master’s degree or a doctorate, which improves their own communities and contributes to larger structures of society.

The young people who have graduated through the Scholarship program have been able to provide their services to the community through our other programs: Psychology, Health, and Legal Assistance. Additionally, there have been business projects driven by young scholarship recipients. Among the list of graduates of this period is Aaron Lopez. Before graduating from the Psychology program, he conducted a Bereavement Workshop for the community; helping people heal from the loss of their loved ones.

Despite living within a conflicted social system, with the help of the scholarship program, young people are still able to transcend themselves and realize their dreams.

These are the names of the young people who graduated
from University (licentiate degree) during this period.
