From the Provincial, Fr. Louis Studer, O.M.I.
Dear Friend,
I’m sure you have seen my picture way too many times. As Provincial, and as the former Director of the Missionary Association, my picture has been used in hundreds of mailings and publications. Even I get tired of looking at myself!
But recently I had a picture taken of me that I simply love, and I want to share it with you here. It was taken by Will Shaw, Director of our Communications Office, when we visited our Oblate ministries in Tijuana, B.C., Mexico.
I was helping my brother Oblates distribute food baskets to families living in desperate conditions. Their homes were little more than shacks made of discarded wood and metal. Most homes had no running water or plumbing. Trash piles were everywhere.
Near the end of our time distributing the food, a little boy comes up to me with a big smile on his face and gives me a “high five.” We were only together for a few seconds, but in that brief encounter this child reminded me of my Oblate identity. We are called to be messengers of Christ, and to bring smiles to the faces of the poor.
Today, I want to give you a virtual “high five.” You deserve this recognition because without your prayers and support our Tijuana ministries, and so many more, simply would not exist.
Let us continue to be co-missionaries as we work together to lift up our brothers and sisters in need. A big “high five” to you, and keep smiling.
Del Provincial, P. Louis Studer, O.M.I.
Estimado Amigo:
