Because of You, Young Adults are Finding their Place in the Church

Thank you for the kindness you continue to share. At Holy Cross parish in Buffalo, NY, a vibrant Young Adult community is growing in faith and service. Their journey is shaped every day by the kindness of donors who believe in forming the next generation of leaders.

One of those young leaders is Oscar Donahue, whose story reflects the impact of your generosity.

Oscar first encountered the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate when he was seventeen. He did not yet know who the Oblates were, but he remembers one thing clearly: he always felt welcomed. Surrounded by “good, caring, loving and selfless people,” he found a spiritual home—one that your generosity helps sustain for young people searching for meaning and belonging.

Life‑Changing Encounters Made Possible By You

With the support of the Oblates, Oscar attended World Youth Day in Krakow in 2016—an experience he describes as unforgettable and possible only through God’s grace and the generosity of others. Last year, the Young Adult group traveled to World Youth Day in Portugal, where they experienced unity, joy, and a deep sense of family within the global Church.

These transformative moments are possible because of donors like you.

Growing in Faith, Friendship, and Service

In 2022, Oscar helped launch the Young Adult group at Holy Cross. Through this ministry, he discovered how essential it is for young people to walk together in faith. Today, many members of the group are among his closest friends. Their dedication and desire to be true disciples continue to grow—fruit nourished by your kindness.

Oscar often reflects on the words of St. Eugene de Mazenod: “We must lead people to act like human beings first of all, and then like Christians, and, finally, we must help them to become saints.”

This teaching guides the group as they serve those who are marginalized or without a voice. Inspired by the Oblate charism, Oscar is now in formation to become an Oblate Associate, carrying forward the mission you help sustain.

Serving Those Most In Need

Every fourth Saturday, the Young Adult group prepares and serves meals at St. Luke’s Mission of Mercy. They pass out food, offer companionship, and share God’s love with those who are struggling.

Oscar says, “Helping others brings joy. Being able to help others and being present for them makes one appreciate the life we have been given. We receive blessings because of the goodness that God wants us to show others.”

Your Generosity Creates Hope for Today and Tomorrow

Your compassion empowers young adults to grow in faith, form meaningful relationships, and build up their communities through the Oblate charism—an impact that would not be possible without your support.
