From the Provincial, Fr. Raymond Cook, OMI
Dear Friends in Christ,
As we journey through the pages of this edition of the Oblate World magazine, we reflect on the grace of the Blessed Virgin Mary, whose apparitions have transcended time and culture. From Our Lady of Guadalupe to Lourdes and Fatima, Mary’s appearances have always conveyed messages of love, compassion, and unity.
The apparition of Our Lady of Guadalupe in 1531 holds special significance to the work of the universal Church. When Mary appeared to Juan Diego, she embraced the culture, language, and struggles of the people in the new world. In calling for a church to be built at Tepeyac Hill, she unites God and Jesus to the new world. This call for unity and compassion continues to inspire the Missionary Oblates as we serve the marginalized across Mexico. In places like Tijuana, we are called to meet the needs of the most vulnerable, offering both spiritual care and practical support, just as Mary did for Juan Diego and his people.
Similarly, the apparition of Our Lady of Lourdes holds deep meaning for us as well. In 1858, Mary appeared to St. Bernadette, calling her to a life of prayer and healing. Just as Mary embraced Bernadette and the sick at Lourdes, we are reminded of our duty to care for those suffering physically, emotionally, and spiritually. Father David’s pilgrimage to Lourdes, filled with prayer and reflection, reaffirmed our commitment to serve others with compassion and grace, following Mary’s example.
In this issue, we also highlight the exciting online initiatives which aim to deepen spiritual growth and further the mission of Mary’s compassion in the world today. Through programs like the Oblate Academy and Oblate Studio, we continue to reach hearts and souls, offering guidance and encouragement to those seeking solace and strength with God.
As you read these stories, we invite you to reflect on Mary’s universal call to service and unity. Her love transcends borders, languages, and cultures, and through the Missionary Oblates, we are called to carry her message of hope to those in need.
Thank you for your continued support. May Mary’s light continue to guide and inspire us all.
