Strength in Humility Power in Love

Meekness is not submission—it is strength in humility, a quiet but unshakable trust in God’s plan, and a heart willing to serve others before self. Christ Himself is our model: “Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.” (Matthew 11:29).

The Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate live out this sacred calling every day, walking alongside those in need rather than imposing authority. Across the world, they bring God’s love and hope through acts of meekness—strength under control, power used in service of the suffering.

In the United States, they provide food to the homeless in New Orleans, ensuring that those in need receive both physical nourishment and spiritual support. On the White Earth Reservation in Minnesota, they listen to Native American communities, strengthening faith in places often overlooked.

Abroad, their mission stretches to Haiti, where they offer shelter and aid to those devastated by natural disasters and violence, embracing the meekness of Christ’s compassionate hands. In Zambia, they bring the Word of God to remote regions, meeting people where they are and sharing the Gospel with humility and love.

Like the Missionary Oblates, we are all called to live out the Beatitudes in our own lives. Meekness is choosing service over status, compassion over control, and peace over pride.

Living the Beatitudes Today

How can we embody meekness? By choosing compassion over pride, by listening with open hearts, and by using our gifts to strengthen and serve those in need. Meekness is lived out in quiet but powerful ways—through feeding the hungry, comforting the suffering, and standing beside the marginalized.
