Lent is a Time of Sacrifice and a Call to Serve
Lent is a time for deep reflection and sacrifice, a sacred period that reminds us of Christ’s profound suffering and calls us to give of ourselves selflessly. Fr. Jim Taggart, OMI, embodies this mission through his unwavering dedication to serving the most marginalized. Even as he is nearing retirement and transitioning to a reduced administrative role, he remains steadfast in his commitment to prison outreach, spending his free time bringing faith to those behind bars. His life is a testament to the true meaning of Lenten sacrifice—giving selflessly so that others may experience the love of Christ.
Bringing Hope to the World Through Ministry
At the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate, this spirit of sacrifice is the foundation of the ministry. For 199 years, the Missionary Oblates have dedicated their lives to bringing the hope of the Gospel to remote locations globally. Today, they serve in 70 countries, standing in solidarity with the poor and offering them essential supplies and spiritual nourishment in places like:
- South Korea – where they provide medical care, shelter, and job training for thousands of homeless individuals.
- Bolivia – in which they advocate for workers’ rights despite facing bombings and assassination attempts.
Be the Light and Answer Christ’s Call of Generosity
