Transforming Lives with CARES: Break Chains, Build Futures
In the heart of Tijuana, the Missionary Oblates’ CARES Program is doing something the world often fails to do—embracing children that others overlook, neglect, and sometimes abandon.
These are children with Down Syndrome, Autism, Angelman Syndrome, and other disabilities—children denied entry to traditional schools. Many have suffered unspeakable abuse and isolation. But here, in a school built on mercy and mission, they are seen. Heard. Loved.
Willyam’s story is one that can’t be forgotten. As a child with autism, he endured violence, starvation, even sexual abuse at the hands of caregivers who didn’t understand his needs. His fear of touch became a wall that even love couldn’t cross.
Until he found CARES
The Missionary Oblates didn’t just teach him—they reclaimed him. Through gentle persistence, reading and writing classes, motor workshops, and daily compassion, Willyam began to trust. He began to heal. Hugs stopped feeling like threats. Classmates became companions. And every step forward was a small miracle.
Today, Willyam smiles. He learns, connects, and reminds us that inclusion isn’t an idea—it’s an act of grace.
