An Oblate’s Homecoming

It was time to return home.

After 9 years of formation and pastoral attachments, Fr Mathews Mukena OMI was ordained to priesthood on 2nd August, 2025 in the mining town of Mufulira in Zambia.

Within hours, he was on the road making an emotional 260km return trip to his hometown of Kabwe. He had one thing to do; return to his home parish and celebrate his very first mass with his family and the community he lived with.

Mass was celebrated at Holy Trinity Parish in the Railways area. Mass was celebrated outside because the church was too small to seat everyone attending mass
