Celebrating 210 Years of Missionary Presence and Service

Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate Celebrate 210 Years of Faithful Service
On January 25, 1816, in Aix-en-Provence, France, a small group of priests gathered with a daring vision: to dedicate their lives to proclaiming the Gospel among the poor and most abandoned. From that moment, the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate began a journey that has now spanned 210 years of service, sacrifice, and hope in the Church.

This anniversary is not marked by public events or ceremonies, but by something deeper: reflection. It is a time to remember the countless lives touched by Missionary Oblate ministry, the communities uplifted, and the enduring witness of faith that continues to inspire.

Across six continents, the Missionary Oblates have stood alongside those on the margins, faith-building, teaching, healing, advocating, and walking with people in their struggles and joys. From remote missions to bustling cities, their presence has been a living testament to the words of their founder, St. Eugene de Mazenod: “We must lead men to act like human beings, first of all, and then like Christians, and, finally, we must help them to become saints.”

The story of the Missionary Oblates is one of resilience and renewal. Through wars, migrations, and cultural shifts, they have remained steadfast in their mission. Today, as we celebrate 210 years, we honor the legacy of those who came before us and recommit ourselves to the mission that continues to call new generations.

This milestone is also a moment of gratitude—for the benefactors, partners, and friends who have walked with the Missionary Oblates, making their ministry possible. Together, we share in this legacy of compassion and hope, trusting that the Spirit will guide us into the future.

As we look ahead, the Missionary Oblates remain devoted to their founding charism: to be close to the poor, to proclaim the Gospel with courage, and to embody Christ’s love in every corner of the world.

210 years of faith. 210 years of mission. 210 years of walking with the poor.
