Meet Jesus from the Houston Youth Ministry

“If I can impact even one youth… that is enough for me.” — Jesus

Jesus joined the Oblate Youth Ministry in Houston, TX, in 2009 as a shy fifteen‑year‑old who believed church was “just one hour on Sunday.” Because of supporters like you, he discovered something far deeper.

Retreats, missions, youth rallies, and the steady presence of the Missionary Oblates helped him grow in confidence and faith. Through family hardships and financial struggles, the youth group became a source of strength and hope.

Sixteen years later, Jesus now returns as an adult volunteer—guiding young people who remind him of his younger self. He says, “When I see a younger version of me, I think, ‘He’s going to be okay.’”

Meet Jamie from the Houston Youth Ministry

“I wanted to grow closer to God.” — Jaime, age 14

One of the youth Jesus now mentors is Jaime, a young man who waited two years to join the group because he was too young. When he finally turned thirteen, he stepped into a community that welcomed him with open arms.

He found friendship, confidence, and a deeper relationship with God. He found pastors who listened. He found a place where anxiety eased and hope grew.

His favorite memory so far is participating in a mobile posada, walking through neighborhoods and delivering food to families in need. “It feels good in your heart to give back,” he said. “People feel warmth when they receive something.”
