Caring for Creation—A Faithful Response to Gods Call
In honor of Earth Day, let’s share responsibility to care for the world God has entrusted to us. As stewards of creation, it is our sacred duty to protect and nurture the earth by embracing sustainable practices. The National Shrine of Our Lady of the Snows in Belleville, Illinois, has answered this call with the installation of solar panels. This effort not only reduces the Shrine’s carbon footprint but also promotes renewable energy, allowing us to fulfill our responsibility to protect God’s creation for future generations.
The Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate are answering the call to protect creation by embracing sustainable solutions like the solar panel project, fulfilling their role as stewards of the earth. God commands us to “tend and keep” the earth (Genesis 2:15), and in Psalm 24:1, we are reminded, “The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it.” These scriptures reinforce our responsibility to protect and preserve the resources we have been entrusted with, and their commitment to environmental justice exemplifies this call to stewardship.
At the Belleville Shrine, the installation of solar panels is more than an energy solution; it is a direct response to our shared responsibility to care for God’s creation. This project embodies the values emphasized in Laudato Si’ by Pope Francis and reflects a faithful dedication to sustainability. By turning to renewable energy, the Shrine sets an example for how faith communities can respond to the call to be good stewards of the earth.
Impact of the Solar Panel Installation:
- Reduction of Carbon Footprint: Reducing energy consumption and decreasing reliance on fossil fuels.
- Sustainable Future: Ensuring that the Shrine continues to be environmentally responsible while carrying out its mission.
- A Model for Others: Encouraging other faith communities to embrace renewable energy as part of their stewardship.
- Long-Term Cost Savings: Redirecting the savings from reduced energy costs toward missionary work and community outreach.
Join compassionate supporters and the Missionary Oblates in their efforts to care for the environment and empower future generations. Let’s make a lasting impact.
