Following the Path of Saint Barnabas: Faith, Encouragement, and Mission

Saint Barnabas, known as the Apostle of Encouragement, is a shining example of faith and selfless service in the early Church. His story, primarily told in the Acts of the Apostles, illustrates a life dedicated to spreading the Gospel, uplifting others, and fostering unity among believers.

Barnabas was originally a Levite from Cyprus, and he played a pivotal role in the early Christian community. He is first introduced in Acts 4:36-37, where we learn that he sold a field and laid the proceeds at the apostles’ feet to support the early church. This act of generosity highlights his commitment to the work of Christ and his understanding of true Christian fellowship.

His greatest contributions, however, came through his encouragement and mission. Barnabas played a key role in bringing the Apostle Paul (then Saul) into the fold of the early Christian community, despite the skepticism others had toward him due to his past persecution of Christians (Acts 9:26-27). Barnabas believed in Paul when others were reluctant, offering him encouragement and support, and thus became an instrumental figure in the expansion of the early Church.

Saint Barnabas’s mission of encouragement and faith deeply aligns with the work of the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate. Just as Barnabas traveled to spread the message of Christ, the Missionary Oblates have dedicated their lives to serving the poor, marginalized, and those in need around the world. Like Barnabas, the Missionary Oblates extend support, build communities of faith, and share the Gospel with a spirit of compassion and dedication.

Saint Barnabas’s example of generosity, encouragement, and mission serves as a guiding light for the Missionary Oblates and all those committed to spreading the love and message of Christ. His life challenges us to serve others selflessly, offering encouragement and sharing the hope of the Gospel in every corner of the world. giver.” By giving, you live out the Spirit of Christ, helping them reach those who need it most.
